If you took a computer’s SSD and put it in another computer of the same model, would you be able to just pick up where you left off?

Yes, generally. Here’s the scoop:

  1. If it’s just data? No issue.
  2. If it’s got a Linux OS? No issue.
  3. If it’s got a Windows OS? Windows will pitch a Bitch with “Your version of Windows is not Authentic.

How do I know? Look at the two laptops on the left in this photo:

(Image, mine) The difference? The second from left has 2GB less RAM and a 2.0, instead of a 2.4, GHz CPU then the one on the far left. Move its Win7 HDD from one to the other? And Windows becomes unhappy. (Minor differences only matter for performance. The biggie is a different MBoard & CPU.)
